Lovers sculpture
Anchorage, Alaska
In the quiet of twilight, two Owls, displaying soft and speckled plumage, perch side by side on a sturdy branch.
Their large, expressive eyes show affection as they meet each other’s gaze, connected by a profound, unspoken bond.
As leaves rustle gently around them, a sense of anticipation fills the air, transcending the night. In this moment, all of nature appears to celebrate, as the Owl’s shared understanding stands as a testament to the enduring magic found in the hearts of those in love.
These maskettes represent the rich heritage of the Cup’ik and Yup’ik peoples of Southwest Alaska. They have been carved as full masks, front and back, as if to be worn by the Ircenrraat. A little people who appear and disappear between worlds.
